My new novel, The Winds of September, will be out in approximately eight weeks. It is the first of four books in my fictional "Winds Series", which begins in 1869 with the story of Jim and Judith Hodge taking their three children and leaving the shipyards of Boston to homestead in Texas. Drought, grasshoppers, and rattle snakes make their stay unbearable, so after three years, they move on to an Appalachian Valley in Tennessee where two of Jim's brothers have settled.
